Panama - Guaymies Indian Village
Alex Melendez, one of our national missionaries living and working in Costa Rica, began to get a great burden for a forgotten and forsaken people, the Guaymies Indians, in Panama.
60% of the people living there have no water or electricity. There are more children than adults in this village and many of them had never seen a doctor or a nurse.
Alex & Mariela Melendez
Several years ago, we made our first mission trip there with a medical and evangelistic team. Our teams were overwhelmed with the need, but by God’s grace we were able to meet the needs of hundreds of patients and through our VBS and Evangelistic meetings we have seen scores saved there in the years we have ministered there.
At this time there is only a foot bridge into this village.
One very interesting aspect of this work is that years ago the government built a very nice Clinic Building, but because the Indians there are so despised by the greater population, no doctor would go out to the work there. To this day, our doctors and nurses are the only ones who have ever held clinic in that building, so from one summer to the next, the building sits empty.

Pray with us that the government of Panama will acknowledge the great need there and send doctors and nurses to see patients in that village.
There are scores of other villages and pockets of Indians all through the area and we are only able to minister to this one little group of people. Let us together pray the Lord of the harvest that He would send forth laborers into this place that is white unto harvest.
Perhaps, God would use you to work with us on a short term mission or maybe God is calling you into full time Christian service to work among this people.
A very remote village of about 3,000 people became the focus of his attention and with great difficulty he persevered on until finally a church was established there and these precious people now have a gospel witness in their poverty stricken home.
